Real Wood Paper is a real wood veneer paper, also known as wood paper, wooden paper, thin wooden veneer, and more. It is made by shaving real wood from trees, capturing the unique characteristics and aesthetic qualities of each tree. Just as no two trees are identical, no two sheets of Real Wood Paper are alike, with natural variations in grain patterns and color.
Each sheet of Real Wood Paper consists of raw wood on the front, an eco-friendly, biodegradable adhesive layer in the middle, and a backing option of fleece, paper, peel-and-stick adhesive, or another sheet of wood—providing a variety of choices to suit your project needs. Real Wood Paper is versatile: it can be printed on, used with a craft cutting machine, cut, scored, folded, perforated, paper punched, wood burned, laser engraved, laser cut, painted, stained, and more.
Please note that since this product is made from real wood, each piece is unique and may differ from the photographs shown on our website. The natural variations in color and grain make Real Wood Paper a beautifully distinctive material for any project. No two projects using Real Wood Paper will ever be the same.
If you have any questions about which product will best suit your needs, please feel free to contact us.
The Fleece Backed option is a very thin, sheer, and flexible material similar to Vellum, perfect for projects that require light weight, flexibility, and luminosity. This backing material is ideal for dollhouse enthusiasts, candle wraps, lamp shades, envelope liners, and other crafts that demand a delicate, flexible material. It has a similar appearance and feel to very thin vellum and is excellent for adhering to other materials, such as cardstock or wood.
Specifications:
The Adhesive Backed material is a very thin, self-adhesive sheet that is perfect for adhering to other materials. The “stickiness” of the adhesive is stronger than a removable sticker but less than a permanent sticker. It can easily be cut with scissors, punches, or craft cutting machines, making it highly versatile for a variety of projects.
Specifications:
The Paper Backed material is slightly thicker than the Fleece Backed option and has a texture that is perfect for adhering to other materials, such as cardstock or wood. This backing is frequently used for wedding invitations that are glued to a larger sheet of cardstock. It offers flexibility for printing and provides textured backing that helps adhesive adhere more easily. It is an excellent choice for creating sturdy and beautiful invitations, announcements, and more.
Specifications:
The Wood Backed material is strong and sturdy, yet still flexible enough to run through laser printers using the straight-feed feature. This material has wood on both sides, making it perfect for projects like announcements, menus, invitations, programs, and more, where you want the beauty of natural wood visible on both sides.
Specifications:

Short Grain and Long Grain refer to the direction of the wood fibers (grain) in relation to the dimensions of the sheet.
Short Grain: The grain runs along the shortest direction of the sheet. This often results in the material being more flexible across its width.
Long Grain: The grain runs along the longest direction of the sheet. This typically gives the material more strength and stability along the length.
The direction of the grain affects the flexibility, strength, and texture of the material, and is important when folding, cutting, or applying adhesives.

Yes! Real Wood Paper sheets are shaved from real trees, and just like each tree has its own unique characteristics, every sheet of Real Wood Paper does as well. These sheets retain the natural variations found in wood, including grain patterns and color differences. No two sheets are the same, which makes our product truly unique and adds beauty to every project. Each sheet is one of a kind.
For more information on variations by species, visit our Color and Grain Variations page.
Real Wood Paper sheets are made from real, natural wood, and as such, each sheet has its own unique grain patterns and color variations, making every piece one-of-a-kind. Due to these natural variations, we cannot guarantee an exact color match with previous orders. Each batch depends on the wood stock available at the time of production. Thank you for appreciating the unique beauty of our product!
No, we do not offer printing services. We do have a few DIY printer suggestions below or recommend seeking out a local professional printing company.
For Professional Printing Companies: While we aren’t experts in every type of printing equipment, our experience shows that most printing companies can use their existing laser printers, digital printers, and other equipment to produce beautiful results on Real Wood Paper. We recommend checking with your printer manufacturer for compatibility with wood-based materials.
For DIY’ers: Any laser printer with a manual or straight feed works best. Since it’s becoming harder to find printers with a straight-through feed, we’ve tested several popular models. For a list of recommended printers, view the home and office printers we have tested.
We do not recommend using inkjet printers with Real Wood Paper. Inkjet ink is wet and can bleed into the wood grains before it fully dries. However, we’ve found that some inkjet printers work ok with certain wood types, like Birch, Maple, and sometimes Cherry.
As always, we recommend testing our wood paper with your printer first to ensure compatibility.

Screen printing and foil printing are both excellent options for printing on Real Wood Paper sheets, providing a unique and beautiful finish. We recommend working with a professional printer who specializes in these techniques to achieve the best results.
Yes! You can cut Real Wood Paper sheets using scissors, craft knives, cutting boards, paper cutters, guillotine cutters, craft cutting machines, paper punches, laser cutters, and more.
Yes! You can score and fold Real Wood Paper. For the best results, score your paper with a crisp line along the grain of the wood. You may need to go over the score line a couple of times. Then, simply fold along the score line.
If you need to score and fold against the grain, the wood may crack or splinter. Use gentle pressure to avoid cutting all the way through the sheet. It may take some trial and error to perfect your technique, but once you find the right setup, it will fold nicely. If any splinters remain along the fold line, gently rub the area with sandpaper. Some wood species, like birch, maple, and cherry, fold more easily than others.

Yes! You can laser cut and laser engrave our Real Wood 1/16″ thick and 1/8″ thick wood panels. They are the best panels for cutting with lasers! Visit our blog post to see what laser cut and engraved Real Wood Paper panels look like.
To prevent curling, always store your Real Wood Paper in its original packaging until you’re ready to use it. If exposed to humidity, the paper can “remember” its natural form as part of a tree. But don’t worry! If your paper curls, use a warm (not hot) clothes iron over the entire wood sheet. Then, place a heavy book or box on top of the paper to help return it to its original flat state.
